North Macedonia has awarded a 54-million-euro project to the Croatian company Koncar to upgrade its energy infrastructure

Croatian electrical equipment manufacturer Koncar has signed a 54-million-euro contract to modernize North Macedonia’s energy infrastructure. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Macedonian state-owned power transmission operator MEPSO and aims to increase the stability and capacity of the country’s grid, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the regional economic publication SeeNews.

Under the terms of the agreement, Koncar will be responsible for the design, equipment supply, and renovation of several strategic high-voltage substations, as well as the replacement of outdated control systems. The investment is expected to enable more efficient management of energy flows and prepare the infrastructure for the integration of new renewable energy sources currently being developed in the region. Funding for the project is supported by international financial institutions providing resources for the development of the energy sector in the Western Balkans.

This agreement strengthens the Croatian group’s position in the Macedonian market, where the company has already implemented a number of projects in partnership with local energy companies. According to the contract, construction and installation work on the renovation of the facilities will begin by the end of the year and will be completed within the previously agreed-upon three-year schedule.
