Holsim Bulgaria sets a new standard of sustainability in the construction sector. The plant becomes the first company in the country to introduce environmental product declarations (EPD) for its cements and concretes, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from BTA. These declarations provide transparency on the environmental impact of products throughout their lifecycle, aiming to make it easier for builders to choose more environmentally friendly materials.

The company reports that it has invested efforts in modernising its production processes over the past year, increasing the use of alternative fuels and raw materials. However, one of the main problems it faces remains a shortage of skilled personnel. To address this, Holcim Bulgaria is actively working with local authorities and educational institutions to attract and train new specialists for the industry.
In addition to its sustainable development efforts, the company supports the socio-economic development of the region around the Beli Izvor plant. In the past year, Holsim Bulgaria has funded infrastructure and environmental projects in the communities surrounding the plant, including donations for road repairs and participation in local cultural initiatives.
The Beli Izvor plant, part of the global Holcim group, is among the leaders in Europe in energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction, with over €162 million invested in modernisation over the last 20 years.
