Grup Şerban Holding builds modern laying hen farm with a capacity of 50 million eggs per year

04 june 2025

The Romanian agro-industrial group Grup Şerban Holding has started the implementation of a large-scale investment in a laying hen farm located in the settlement of Orbeni, Bacau County. The total value of the project amounts to EUR 11.5 million, of which EUR 7.5 million is a targeted subsidy granted by the Romanian State. The new farm will include ten specialised sheds and is the largest facility of its type ever built by the company. This is what BalkanEngineer.com. learned from the Romanian economic publication Ziarul Financiar.

According to Julian Šomitsi, development director at Grup Şerban Holding, the facility is expected to be completed and operational in autumn 2025. The farm will house 160,000 active laying hens as well as 40,000 juvenile birds destined for replacement production stock. The annual production capacity is expected to reach approximately 50 million eggs, mainly for the Romanian retail market.

Despite the scale of the project, Grup Şerban Holding still lags behind market leader Toneli, a Lebanese-owned company that holds over 30% of the local market and produces around 500 million eggs a year. This puts Toneli ten times ahead in production terms, but the new farm marks an important step for Grup Şerban towards strengthening its position in the egg sector in Romania.
