The GBS - Prifab plant, specialized in the production of prefabricated reinforced concrete elements, became the first enterprise in Bulgaria to receive the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its products, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a press release of the company. It is part of the large-scale construction and building technology group Glavbolgarstroy.
The EPD certificate provides detailed information on the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle, from raw material extraction to recycling processes. Through this analysis, which is based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, manufacturers and investors can assess indicators such as carbon footprint, energy and water consumption, and waste generation. This is a valuable tool for anyone looking to meet green building certification requirements such as LEED and BREEAM.
The plant, located near Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, is equipped with advanced technologies including Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital passports for every item manufactured there. Each item is marked with a unique QR code, which provides easy access to the full technical product passport.
