The Romanian state gas company Transgaz has completed the construction of 215 km of BRUA gas pipeline linking Bulgaria to Romania, Hungary and Austria, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a company announcement. This is part of the first phase of the project worth EUR 560 million.

The project includes the construction of a pipeline that will pass through 11 Romanian districts, with a total length of 550 km in the territory of Romania. The maximum capacity will be 1.5 and 4.4 billion m3 gas per year towards Bulgaria and Hungary, respectively.

In addition to the 215 km pipeline, the contractor has also built three compressor stations. Upon finalizing the first phase of the project, the bi-directional transmission of natural gas will be carried out to Bulgaria via the Giurgiu-Ruse interconnector, and to Hungary via the Horia-Csanádpalota interconnector.
