The construction of the interconnector between Bulgaria and Serbia has started, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the website Manager.bg, which quotes the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov.
The beginning of the preparation of a working project for replacement of the above-ground equipment of the gas storage "Chiren" has been set. The capacity of the gas storage facility is also expanding from 500 million to over 1 billion m3 of gas, which is a key element of the Bulgarian investment in the liquefied gas terminal in Greece, as well as in relation to the country's interconnector with Greece.
The executive director of the gas operator Bulgartransgaz Vladimir Malinov said that a public procurement worth about BGN 144 million has already been launched for the supply of equipment and construction of the interconnector, which is 62 km long in Bulgaria. Following a decision of the Commission for Protection of Competition, Bulgartransgaz is now a full shareholder and participant in the liquefied natural gas terminal on the territory of Greece. The energy projects are supported by the European Commission and partners and will make a significant contribution to Bulgaria's security, Malinov added.
