Serbia will start building the BIO4 technology park in 2025 in Belgrade, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a statement by Jelena Begovic, Serbia's Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation. The project will occupy 20 hectares and include eight main facilities. It will employ nine research institutes and seven faculties from the University of Belgrade.

The park will also provide space for companies in biomedicine, biotechnology and bioinformatics. Among the companies that will settle in BIO4 are world leaders such as Roche, Takeda, Pfizer, Merck and AstraZeneca. Construction will be completed by the end of 2026. Preparatory work began in 2023 and the building permit was received in December of that year.
The project will be financed with around €500 million for the first phase. In addition to the loans already secured from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Saudi Arabia, Serbia will receive one from the World Bank. It will be worth €25 million and is intended for innovation in artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
BIO4 is projected to establish Serbia as an important science and technology hub in the region, attracting both new investment and researchers in strategic scientific areas.
