30 may 2025

Finnish sports equipment manufacturer Amer Sports has started production of ski vending machines at a new plant located in the northwestern Romanian town of Oradea, Bihor County. The initiative is described as a “strategic return” to in-house production after nearly two decades of outsourcing, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from the company's announcement. The new facility, which began operations in January 2025, covers an area of 12,000 m2 and already employs 250 staff.

In addition to the new plant in Oradea, Amer Sports plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Romania by integrating its injection molding operations in the city of Deva, where the company will acquire full ownership of the manufacturing site and equipment from its long-time partner Savrom by the end of 2025. The aim is for the Finnish company to improve its production processes and strengthen the position of the Salomon, Atomic and Armada brands in the global winter sports market.

The factory in Oradia is equipped with more than 300 modern machines and already holds TÜV certification, which guarantees compliance with international quality and safety standards.

According to Amer Sports Senior Vice President Winter Sports, Stefan Leberbauer, these investments are a crucial step towards creating a sustainable production network that will ensure innovation, quality and competitiveness for the company in the future.
