Albania's first tech park Durana Tech Park opens

This spring, Albania officially opened Durana Tech Park, the first-ever science and technology park in the country, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from an announcement by the Albanian Investment Corporation. The facility is located in the village of Jafzotai (Xhafzotaj), between Tirana and Duras, and has already welcomed its first 35 tenants - companies from six countries, including the US, Germany, Italy, France, Estonia and Kosovo.

The project is led by the Albanian Investment Corporation, and according to its executive director, Elira Kokona, the park aims to promote innovation and technology transfer in the region. The first phase covers 14 hectares, expandable to 82.5 hectares, and the investment currently stands at 18 million euros.

Durana Tech Park is designed as a multifunctional campus, including office buildings, laboratories, hotel and restaurant areas, as well as sports infrastructure. Thanks to its proximity to Tirana International Airport (16.4 km away) and the Port of Duras (10 km away), the Technopark provides quick access to the country's main logistics and business centres.

The focus of the investment is on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which will benefit from VAT and profit tax exemptions. Among the permitted activities are software development, IT security, data analytics, cloud technologies, research in robotics and communication systems. The park is expected to stimulate the creation of new jobs and the development of highly qualified personnel.

The park will also host hackathons, workshops and internship programmes in collaboration with the universities of Tirana and Durres, the two cities where more than 75% of higher education institutions and research centres in Albania are concentrated.
