Voltalia starts construction of 100 MW solar park in Albania

20 january 2025

French renewable energy company Voltalia has started construction of a 100 MW solar park in the Spitalle area, near Drač, Albania. The project will provide electricity for 150,000 inhabitants and prevent annual emissions of more than 18,000 t of CO2, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a company press release.

Voltalia will be the main developer, builder and owner of the facility, which will generate enough power to meet the needs of about 150,000 residents and prevent annual emissions of more than 18,000 t CO2. Commissioning of the facility is expected in the second half of 2027.

The project is part of Voltalia's ongoing commitment to the development of renewable energy in Albania, a country that is a leader in solar energy production in the region.

As a result of the collaboration with Albania's state-owned power company, Voltalia will sell 70 MW of the power produced to it, with the remainder to be traded on the open market. This investment comes after the successful commissioning of the 140 MW Karavasta solar power plant in 2023.
