Stokomak's first supermarket outside North Macedonia is now open in Pirot, Serbia

14 may 2025

North Macedonian discount store chain Stokomak has opened its first outlet in Serbia, choosing the city of Pirot to begin its international expansion. The new store has a retail area of 600 m2 and offers around 1,200 items, including international brands and own-brand products with discounts of up to 50%, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a company announcement. The opening was backed by an investment of EUR 5 million and attracted a large number of customers in the first days.

Stokomak plans to expand its presence in Serbia with 10 more sites by the end of 2025. The company's press office says it is in talks for additional locations around the country.

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Skopje, Stokomak operates 77 stores in northern Macedonia and is among the leading players in the local retail sector. In the Serbian market, its main competition comes from foreign chains such as Delhaize Serbia, Mercator-S and Lidl Serbia, which dominate the country's retail sector.

The company expects that its entry into the Serbian market will increase competition and offer consumers in Pirot and the region a wider choice of goods at low prices.
