Serbia’s national rail freight operator, Srbija Kargo, has signed a historic trilateral cooperation agreement with its partners from Hungary (MÁV-Start) and North Macedonia (MZ Transport). The initiative aims to create a unified framework for more efficient management of freight flows along the strategic rail corridor connecting Central Europe with ports in Greece, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the specialized portal Railmarket.

The main focus of the agreement is to reduce border crossing times and optimize logistics chains by synchronizing schedules and sharing resources. The three parties are committed to working on harmonizing technical standards and digitizing transport documents, which will significantly reduce the administrative burden on international carriers.
During the signing ceremony, the CEO of Srbija Kargo emphasized that this partnership is of immense importance for enhancing the competitiveness of rail transport relative to road transport. With the modernization of the Budapest–Belgrade line underway, the trilateral cooperation is paving the way for handling significantly larger volumes of cargo, transforming the region into a strategic bridge between Asia and Western Europe.
