MK Group is in the process of drafting a project for the construction of a biomass power plant in Vrbas, Serbia. The facility is worth EUR 8.1 million and is expected to be operational in February 2020, BalkanEngineer.com also learned from SerbianMonitor.com.

According to the company Serbia has a great potential for renewable energy as there are a number of different farm and food waste streams, such as meatpacking and sugar beet byproducts, that can be utilized for electricity generation.

The annual production of the future power plant in Vrbas is estimated at around 20 000 MWh, which could meet the annual needs for electricity of about 5000 households. With this project MK Group supports Serbia’s goal of having 27% of its total energy consumption from renewable energy resources by 2020.
