Serbia is starting construction of the Selova dam on the Toplica River, near Krusevac, as part of an ambitious water supply and water resource management project in the southeastern part of the country. The dam and the adjacent reservoir will provide safe and high-quality water for about 500,000 residents of Niš and the surrounding municipalities, BalkanEngineer.com learned from an official announcement in the Serbian media.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management Dragan Glamoic, together with the mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic and heads of the Republican Water Directorate and Serbian Water, emphasized the enormous importance of the project for the long-term water security and sustainable development of the region.
The Selova Dam is one of the ten most important dams in Serbia. The project includes not only water supply but also flood protection, sediment control, opportunities for hydroelectric power generation, fish farming, and irrigation of agricultural land.
Construction is expected to be completed within two years of its start. According to Glamoic, the investment will support economic development, strengthen agriculture, increase crop yields, and encourage young people to stay and develop in local areas.
