Serbia resumes negotiations with China's CRBC for the construction of Mihajlo Pupin Industrial Park

09 may 2025

The project for the construction of the Serbian-Chinese industrial park Mihajlo Pupin is once again in the spotlight after Serbia's Minister of Economy Adriana Mesarevic held a working meeting with representatives of the Chinese state-owned company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The purpose of the meeting was to determine the next concrete steps for the implementation of the large-scale investment, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the Serbian minister's statement.

Minister Mesarevic said that the talks were productive and covered strategic aspects of cooperation between the two countries. In a social media post, she clarified that CRBC's leadership is planning an official visit to Serbia in the near future, which will allow for in-depth negotiations on the investment framework and project logistics.

The Mihajlo Pupin Industrial Park is seen as one of the leading infrastructure projects within the framework of the economic cooperation between Serbia and China. The project was officially announced back in 2018, when the Ministry of Finance of Serbia signed an agreement with CRBC in Beijing. A year later, plans were presented to start construction in Belgrade's Borca district, near the Pupin Bridge, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a temporary freeze on activities.

The industrial zone is planned to cover over 500 ha - of which 320 ha for the main area and another 180 ha for supporting infrastructure. The implementation will be organized in three phases and will aim to attract high-tech companies, logistics operators and production units, thus positioning Serbia as an industrial and logistics hub in the region.
