Serbia to construct a waste management center for 8 municipalities

Serbia plans to build a regional waste management center for Novi Sad, as well as 7 other municipalities, BalkanEngineer.com learned from eKapija.com. According to the Regional Waste Management Plan for 2019-2028, the project must be completed by 2024.

 

 

The strategy paper aims to achieve sustainable waste management in Serbia in three phases. The regional plan sets out modern methods of municipal waste collection, ways of waste separation and subsequent treatment, as well as measures to reduce waste production and informing the population.

 

The waste management project includes the construction of recycling centers, transfer stations, green waste composting facilities and regional landfills. The plan has been prepared in accordance with EU requirements for the reduction of landfilled waste by 60%. Following the commissioning of the regional waste management center with a regional landfill, the closedown of existing waste disposal sites in all municipalities is planned.
