Serbia is on the verge of completing a €15.5 million intermodal terminal in Belgrade's Batajnica district, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com. The project, led by the Serbian Ministry of Infrastructure, aims to turn the terminal into a regional transport hub.
The Belgrade Intermodal Terminal project aims to improve logistics connections in Serbia and has received financial support from a 13.8 million euro grant from the European Union and an additional 1.7 million euro from the Serbian government.
The intermodal terminal in Batajnica is designed as a logistics platform specializing in the transfer of consolidated cargo, such as containers, between different modes of transport. It will also provide storage space for containers and is strategically located near major road, rail and potentially water transit routes.
The facility is expected to help reduce transport costs, which currently account for 20% of product prices for the country, compared to the EU average of 10-12%.
