The Romanian group OMV Petrom started a new drilling campaign for natural gas in the shallow waters of the Black Sea in the perimeter of Istria. The investment project will cost over EUR 30 million, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the Romanian company.

Istria, which is located in the Black Sea’s shallow waters, has over 30 years of history in oil and gas production. Although the deposits in the region have reached the peak of production years ago, the use of appropriate modern technical solutions should allow OMV to unlock additional resources.

According to a statement of the company, there will be two new exploration wells that should be completed by the end of this year. They will be drilled at depths of more than 2000 m below the seabed in about 50-meters deep waters.
