The Energy Resources Regulatory Commission (ERRC) of the Republic of North Macedonia has issued the first licenses for battery energy storage systems (BESS) to Energo Solar Systems, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a publication by the Macedonian Information Agency (MIA). They have a total capacity of 2,600 kW and are installed in two already operational photovoltaic power plants.

Energo Solar Systems is a leading engineering company in North Macedonia, specializing in the design, construction, and maintenance of photovoltaic and renewable energy systems. Although the MIA statement does not provide specific details about the company, it is clear that it plays a leading role in the development of green energy infrastructure in the country. The issuance of BESS licenses confirms Energo Solar Systems' commitment to innovation and the sustainable use of renewable energy sources.

The Chairman of the RCE, Marko Bislimoski, emphasized that the issuance of the first licenses for BESS marks the beginning of a new investment cycle and will accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and efficient energy system. Interest in energy storage systems is expected to grow, with photovoltaic station owners and new investors submitting applications to build and operate such facilities.

Energy storage systems allow surplus electricity to be accumulated during periods of low consumption and released during peak demand, resulting in a more stable grid and potentially lower costs for consumers and operators. The procedures and requirements for licensing are regulated by the Energy Act and the Licensing Regulations, and the RCE monitors the safe and efficient operation of these facilities.
