North Macedonia plans to build a waste treatment facility worth 327 million euro, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Balkangreenenergynews.com. The installation will be located in the town of Negotino and will process the municipal waste of the major part of the country.

According to the Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, the project for the construction of a plasma gasification facility has received a strategic investment status. The selected technology for treatment of municipal waste will not be emitting harmful gases into the air, while generating natural gas, which will be utilized for electricity production. The investment also includes the construction of 22 transfer stations and substations.

Before treatment, the collected waste will be pre-sorted for the separation of plastics, iron, paper, glass and other materials good for recycling. There are similar plasma gasification plants in operation in countries such as Germany, Austria and Slovenia.
