Bulgaria will build six new TIR car parks with EU funding as part of efforts to make road transport safer and more sustainable in the European Union. The country will receive over 37.4 million euro in grant funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a European Commission announcement.

The project, titled "Safe and Secure Smart Mobile Parking Network Bulgaria 2.0", is coordinated by the Automotive Cluster Bulgaria Association and aims to improve recreational and safety conditions for professional drivers. Six strategically located car parks offering a total of 816 spaces for trucks are planned.
These facilities will be positioned along the TEN-T (Baltic - Black - Aegean) trans-European transport corridor, with each site meeting the highest quality and security standards in the EU - Gold and Platinum Class. The car parks will be equipped with intelligent management systems, including the ability to pre-book spaces, CCTV and facilities for drivers. Preliminary information indicates that some of them will be built in the regions of Sofia region (Herakovo), Pernik and Pazardzhik.
The project is part of the 94 transport initiatives approved to receive a total of 2.8 billion euro from the EU under the CEF programme. European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport Apostolos Tsitsikostas stressed that these projects are "a key element of the Green Pact and Europe's geopolitical sustainability".
