An intelligent transport system will be installed on the highway from the village of Tabanovce to the town of Gevgelija in North Macedonia, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the news agency Meta.mk.

The project amounts to EUR 18.6 million. The new system aims to increase the safety on the road, which is part of the Pan-European Corridor 10.

The intelligent system includes devices for measuring the weight of vehicles on the road, as well as systems that provide information for the meteorological conditions and the greenhouse gas levels. Surveillance cameras, SOS road telephones and electronic road signals providing data on road conditions will be installed as well. At the same time, all road parameters will be monitored by North Macedonia`s Public Enterprise for State Roads’ Control Center.

The installation of the equipment and the surveillance over the operations will start at the end of 2021, and the system should be put into operation in 2022.
