Greece's Terna Energy starts construction of 130 MW solar power plant near Burgas

24 march 2025

The Greek company Terna Energy, part of the international energy giant Masdar, plans to build a new solar power plant with a capacity of 130 MW near the village of Vratitsa in Burgas. The project, developed by Terna Energy's subsidiary Bio PD Solar Energy, will be implemented in the municipality of Kameno and will be connected to the national power grid by the end of 2026, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from an announcement by the Greek company.

Renewable energy continues to be a strategic focus for expansion in Southeast Europe, with Terna Energy adding innovation in Bulgaria with the significant scale of the project. Through the new solar power plant, the company is committed to connecting a new 33/110 kV step-up substation to the grid, necessary to optimize the supply of electricity.

Site clearing activities are already underway, and the site on which the plant will be built is a municipal site granted to Bio PD Solar Energy through a long-term concession agreement concluded for 35 years. The municipal administration of Kameno confirms that all procedures have been coordinated with the Electricity System Operator EAD and the investment has the potential to improve the energy infrastructure in the region.

The project is part of Masdar's strategic initiative to expand their presence in the region. In addition to the solar power plant, Terna Energy already operates two wind farms in Bulgaria with a total capacity of 30 MW.
