18 march 2025

Continental Automotive has taken another step towards a sustainable future with a new photovoltaic installation at its plant in Timisoara, Romania. 1,440 solar panels have now been installed on the roofs of the production halls, which will provide 715 MWh of green energy per year and reduce carbon emissions by 152 t, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a release from the company's subsidiary in Romania.

"Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us, but a real commitment. We believe that investment in green energy is the key to more efficient and environmentally friendly production," said Lucian Marginianou, director of the Timisoara plant.

The project was implemented by E.ON Energie Romania, which designed and financed the installation and will also take care of its maintenance.

The Timisoara plant is one of Continental's largest production facilities in the region. It produces more than 20 million automotive components a year, including electronic airbag control units, brake systems, displays and other technologies for modern vehicles. The plant is increasingly moving towards Industry 4.0, implementing automated systems, smart technologies and energy-efficient solutions.

Continental has invested heavily in its development in Romania - more than €2.3 billion since 1999. The company has more than 20,300 employees in the country and is among the leading industrial employers. The new solar plant in Timisoara is another step in Continental's strategy for greener and more efficient production, proving that sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand.
