Cement and concrete producer Holcim invests more than 700,000 euro in modernisation of plant in Romania

26 march 2025

Swiss cement and concrete producer Holcim has announced an investment of more than 700,000 euro for the modernisation of its aggregates plant in the village of Stanceschi, Powder County, Romania. The main focus of the project is the introduction of an innovative water recycling and purification system, in which 450,000 euro has been invested. This technology will reduce the facility's water consumption by nearly 80%, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a company announcement.

The aggregates plant in Stancessti plays a strategic role in the construction industry, supplying crushed and natural aggregates for large-scale infrastructure projects. These include the construction of highways, bridges and housing developments in Ilfov, Powder and Dumbovica counties. With the new investment, the plant is expected to increase efficiency and reduce wastewater while maintaining high quality output.

Since entering the Romanian market in 1997, Holcim has invested more than €900 million in modernising its facilities, improving safety and working conditions, and reducing its environmental footprint. The company applies environmental standards at all its facilities and has plans in place to rehabilitate quarries to minimize environmental impact.

Holcim Romania currently operates two cement plants, in Kampulung and Alesd, a grinding station, 28 concrete units, five aggregates plants, three cement terminals and three waste pre-treatment facilities. In addition, it owns Somaco Grup Prefabricate, which operates five prefabricated building products plants. Holcim Romania employs around 2,000 people, making it one of the country's leading employers in the construction sector.
