The telecommunications operator Telenor has launched a series of practical tests on the 5G network in Bulgaria, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a company announcement. The company performed its first-ever medical examination using the technology of the new generation on 22nd July 2019.
The practical test is inspired by a real-life case – leading doctors from the capital regularly visit a regional hospital in Haskovo for consultations and examinations. For the purpose of the experiment, the company made a 5G connection between 3 locations in Bulgaria – 2 in Sofia and 1 in Haskovo.
During the test, the doctors in Sofia managed to carry out a long-distance examination of a patient who was in Haskovo. Through a combination of a 5G network, optical connectivity, virtual reality goggles, and a 360-degree camera, the professionals realized a live connection, medical examination and consultation.
Through the test, Telenor aims to prove how the 5G network could be integrated into different areas and provide reliable connection speed and image streaming.
