The information and computer technology (ICT) sector in Bulgaria continues to grow in 2022, reaching growth of 26%. This is what BalkanEngineer learned from Mediapool.bg.
The growth is more than BGN 1.22 billion more than in 2021. For the last 6 years, the sector has increased its operating income more than 6 times. More than 80% of the revenues are from exports, mainly to the USA and Western European countries.
In 2022, 370 new software companies were registered in Bulgaria, with over 4,000 newly appointed employees, making the total number of employees in the industry over 50,000. It is expected that revenues in 2022 will reach 4.5% of the country's GDP, marking its highest since 2011.
According to forecasts, more than 30,000 new jobs will be created by 2026, and the number of employees in the sector will reach more than 80,000. Sales revenue will be over BGN 15 billion, and taxes and insurance - about BGN 3 billion. The goal will be for the ICT industry to take first place in terms of revenue in the Bulgarian economy.
