Belgrade entered the finals of the competition for the best Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, as part of the wider competition during the European Mobility Week 2020, BalkanEngineer.com learned from eKapija.com. This makes the Serbian capital one of the best European cities in terms of the concept of sustainable urban mobility, Mayor Zoran Radojicic commented.

Among the finalists is the Spanish city of Bilbao, as well as the French city of Grenoble, which was declared the "Green Capital of Europe" for 2023.

The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan is important for improving air quality, reducing noise levels and creating conditions for a better quality of life and health for citizens, Radojic said. In addition to the metro project, the city is also working to expand pedestrian and bicycle paths, as well as to improve and modernize public transport.

Currently, Belgrade has about 100 km of bike paths, and the goal of the Plan is to build another 400 km by 2030. The implementation of a joint project with Siemens is underway, according to which by 2023 installed "smart" traffic lights at 322 intersections in the city.
