According to official data from the Institute of Statistics of Albania (INSTAT), business, administration and law, as well as engineering, manufacturing and construction continue to be the most preferred fields of study among Albanian students in the academic year 2023-2024. However, the total number of graduated students has decreased by 1% compared to the previous year, reaching 82,712, BalkanEngineer.com also learned from the official report.

Ladies represent 65.8% of all graduated students, with the most preferred field being “business, administration and law” with 25.9% of graduates. Males preferred “engineering, manufacturing and construction” where 25.2% of graduates were male. Meanwhile, fields such as natural sciences, mathematics and statistics, as well as agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary medicine, saw a significant decline in the number of students.
The largest decline was recorded in primary education diplomas, due to a decrease in the population in this age group due to low birth rates and high emigration over the last decade. In the 2023-2024 school year, 27,705 students completed primary education, a decrease of 2.7% from the previous year.
This evidence highlights the need for strategic planning and investment in the education system to ensure balanced development of all sectors and to meet the future needs of the Albanian economy and society.
