Albanian Railways announces tender for modernisation of key international rail link

08 january 2025

State-owned operator Albanian Railways has launched a preliminary tender for the rehabilitation of the 120-kilometre railway linking Vore in central Albania with Hani and Hotit on the border with Montenegro. The project is valued at €373 million and is financed through loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), as well as a grant from the European Union (EU).

The tender will be conducted in two phases, the first of which includes a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ), and the deadline for submissions is 24 January 2025. The rehabilitation is part of the EU's Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) Mediterranean Corridor development efforts.

The Vlore - Hani and Hotit line is Albania's only international rail link, connecting Tirana with Podgorica and providing strategic access to neighbouring and European countries. The project aims to improve connectivity and transport infrastructure in the region, supporting Albania's economic development and integration with the EU.
