The leading Albanian conglomerate Kastrati Group, which operates Tirana International Airport (TIA), has announced an ambitious investment plan worth 152 million euro for the period 2026–2028. The project aims to address the unprecedented growth in passenger traffic and transform the airport into one of the most modern and functional in Europe, BalkanEngineer.com learned from SeeNews and Top Channel.
The new wave of investment is a continuation of the group’s efforts to date, which has already invested approximately 110 million euro since acquiring the airport in 2020 through the end of 2025. The planned 152 million euro will be directed toward significantly expanding terminal spaces, extending the runway, constructing new parking structures, and implementing state-of-the-art security technologies. Among the innovations are state-of-the-art 3D scanners that will speed up the baggage screening process, eliminating the need for passengers to remove electronic devices and liquids.
The Kastrati Group’s strategy is already yielding tangible results—Tirana has become the fastest-growing aviation market in Europe, attracting low-cost giants such as Ryanair and Wizz Air. With the new investments, the airport’s capacity is expected to reach levels allowing it to serve over 6 million passengers annually by 2030. The project also includes a new iconic 40,000-square-meter façade designed by renowned Italian architect Marco Casamonti, which will give the airport a new, attractive, and unique look.
