Belgian company Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering (ABEE) has started construction of a factory for battery systems for electric vehicles in the town of Kichevo, North Macedonia, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com. In the initial stage, the project envisages an investment of 10 million euros and the creation of 200 jobs, with plans to take the investment to 40 million euros and provide 600 jobs in subsequent stages.
Completion of ABEE's factory is expected in 2025, with tq set to be a key manufacturing and export hub. The company forecasts that the factory will generate annual exports of €50 million in its first year, and within six to seven years this could rise to €500 million.
ABEE is known for its innovative battery solutions and systems, applicable in both automotive and stationary applications. The project in North Macedonia is part of the company's strategy to expand its operations in Europe and respond to the growing demand for electric vehicles. It is also an opportunity for North Macedonia to position itself as an important player in the battery industry in Southeast Europe.
