Unitraf is a Bulgarian producer of transformers, chokes and uninterruptible power supply, which has been serving a wide range of industrial areas for more than 60 years. The successful development of the company is a result of applying the most up to date technologies, proven engineering expertise and strategic investments in modernization of the production center. Parallel to the development of electrical equipment, the company also offers production of parts and mechanical structural elements in both single and serial production for the purposes of various industrial sectors. For the smooth and effective flow of metalworking operations at Unitraf’s production base is where a RAIS M500 machining center is located.

“RAIS M500 is a project for performing a wide range of metal cutting processes on medium-sized parts, combining high cutting and feed speeds with exceptional process stability. The optimized design of the machine – with massive, ribbed gray cast iron housings for the base, column, spindle box and worktable – guarantees maximum strength, minimal thermal deformations and the absence of vibrations, which leads to high geometric accuracy and excellent smoothness of the machined surfaces. BalkanEngineer.com was informed by the established manufacturing company RAIS.

One of the most serious challenges regarding metalworking is achieving high productivity at short and medium series. For this type of production time for calibration is often a deciding factor, "Thanks to the applied tooling and organizational technique when working with the RAIS M500, a measurable and sustainable effect on productivity is achieved: each part is processed with an average of 4 to 7 tools, with over 50% of them pre-positioned in the machine. This leads to a minimum of 20% reduction in setup time, better utilization of machine resources, and higher process repeatability, turning the RAIS M500 into a real production factor, not just a standalone CNC machine," RAIS explained.
