Data centers have turned into the backbone for global digitalization, and they are also one of the biggest consumers of electrical energy. The reason for this is their enormous need for cooling capacity, and thus every inefficient cooling cycle represents a waste of energy, water, and other valuable resources. In this context, technological leaders such as Wilo enunciate their role, offering solutions which optimize cooling systems. One such example is the individually configured cooling installation for the center of cloud services Alibaba in Hangzhou, China, and more regarding the topic was shared by Wilo to BalkanEngineer.com.

Powered by renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar energy, the center uses the intelligent Wilo system for cooling its sizable servers in an ecologically clean way. It includes specially configured Wilo-Atmos GIGA-N and Wilo-Helix V pumps, which ensure maximum operational safety, even under the extreme conditions with which order is maintained, namely strong temperature fluctuations and exposure to dust. The objective of the module system is to balance energy efficiency and the performance of the cooling system.

“The innovative solution is called Wilo-Ice Cube and it is a pre-assembled refrigerated container that integrates all the main components into one intelligent complete system. Its uniqueness comes from a combination of physical and digital intellect. On one hand, the sensors continuously gather information regarding parameters such as pressure, temperature and discharge, and the other – algorithms, based on artificial intelligence, analyze these values and dynamically regulate performance, to match the work conditions.”, Wilo explained.

Wilo-Ice Cube leads to the following results in the Alibaba cloud center:

  • 20% savings;
  • 30% lower energy consumption;
  • 40% shorter delivery time;
  • Maximum operational safety;
  • Connectivity with the center's management systems.
